About The Rough House
Our story is a familiar one to the Chicago theater scene: Three college friends dissasatisfied with their theatrical opportunities at home (In our case, Los Angeles) decide to move to the windy city to find a (relatively) bigass storefront apartment and convert it into an experimental performance arts playground. Done.
So what is it that we do here? For one, we provide rehearsal space. Everyone needs to get their show on it's feet, and sometimes your cramped 500 square foot living room just isn't big enough. Lucky for you, our living room is a theater, and it's as big as just about any black-box theater in Chicago, if not, larger. Our rates are usually beer, or beyond super-reasonable, so contact Shelley if you need some space to play in.
We'd also be happy to host your next reading/workshop/etc...
We like to play as well. Every coupla months or so, we throw a little shindig... it's about one part cabaret, one part partay, and we'd love for you to check it out here. A big goal we have here is to make theater a part of ordinary life again, you know, like back in the olden tymes. These parties are a good step in that direction, so we'd love to have you come see what it's all about.
We like our shit homemade, scratchy, sexy, and gooooood. Throw in a few puppets for good measure, and you've got yourself a kick-ass show at the Rough House.
