Hello everyone. Mike here.

Looking at this blog means that you’re being a part of our little experiment in… I don’t know what to call it… 21st century bohemianism? We’ll settle on that for now. Max and Shelley and Kelly and I all moved out here to make a theater, and that’s what we did. Sure there’s already a lot of them in Chicago, and hell, some of them are even in people’s living rooms, but we wanted to do it ourselves. And we’re making sure we do it right.

If you have no idea what the Rough House is go here: www.roughhousetheater.com

So now we have a performance space and a website and a blog. Now we want friends. My selfish reasons being a part of this project is to make friends. Artistic friends to play with and make new things. Collaboration excites me a lot more than playing with myself. I want to incite and inspire, and my hope that our venue and events can serve as a lightning rod (or maybe a glue trap is a more appropriate metaphor) for people who want to to create something similar.

Art is pretty fucking infinite. (pardon the potty mouth, but we’re all friends here, right?) It can be used for everything: expression, catharsis, propaganda, good, and evil to name a few. For me personally, I would like to have to opportunity to explore as many of these facets as possible.

Non-artist friends are good too, sometimes, they’re the best. As much as I like talking about the same things over and having audiences comprised entirely of actors, there’s a real world out there, and if I had my druthers, I’d druther that our worlds mixed more often than not.

So, if you’re an artist or just a friend, welcome. We look forward to playing together. Sign up for this blog if you want to stay in touch, and likewise, feel free to post and comment, and keep us in touch with what you’re doing. Share and share alike, comrads.

One last thing, we have an event coming up, and it is guaranteed to be the best yet. For those who haven’t been to one, it’s pretty fair to say that we know how to put on a show, so come join us on Oct. 10th at 11pm at the Rough House for the Great Trash Spectacle of ‘09 (pronounced “aught nine”). We look forward to seeing you there.

Peace and Puppets,

Mike
